The 15th Sustainability Learning Conference
On Thursday 27 June 2024, the 15th Sustainability Learning Conference was held at Blackburn Rovers Football Club at Ewood Park, Blackburn, with support from Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
The conference was delivered by Sustainability Learning CIC and members of the Lancashire Schools Sustainability Forum, supported by other environmental groups. It focused on the pupil voice, peer-to-peer learning and learning between generations.
The conference attracted interest from schools from Lancaster to Wigan and from Manchester to Blackpool. Forty-three primary schools were represented, and 15 high schools, including four special schools.
Around 300 Key Stage 2 children took part, with more than 30 marketplace stands each offering short learning activities on topics from energy, waste and water to biodiversity, forest school activities and school grounds. The Zero-Waste Packed Lunch Challenge was compulsory, and the Trashion Show brought together models from St Christopher's CE High School and 30 upcycled garments from primary schools.
High school students tackled a STEM challenge and the Production Line Challenge, and students from five high schools acted as guides for the primary groups. Three CPD sessions, on the curriculum, leadership and governance, gave school staff and governors ideas to take back to school.
The conference was run as a not-for-profit event and depended on sponsorship. Sustainability Learning CIC and the Forum thank everyone who supported it. For news of future conferences, visit the CIC's website: https://sustainabilitylearning.co.uk
