Glynis Goldsbrough
Founder of the Schools Sustainability Conferences · Forum lead Draft: to confirm
Glynis spent more than 35 years in primary education, over 21 of them as a headteacher, in schools from Saudi Arabia to Chipping, here in Lancashire. For more than twenty years she has championed environmental education, education for sustainable development and learning beyond the classroom across the county.
While she was headteacher of Brabin's Endowed School in Chipping, Glynis suggested at a Forum meeting that she could use her contacts to run conferences for young people and promote the organisations that support them. The first was held in Chipping in 2007. She has organised the conferences as a volunteer ever since, as they grew from Chipping to St Christopher's CE High School in Accrington and then to Blackburn Rovers Football Club at Ewood Park, Blackburn. Today they are planned and delivered by Sustainability Learning CIC as the Sustainability Learning Conferences, with support from Forum members.
She has written Key Stage 2 programmes of study for the Bowland AONB and for the Co-op's Green Revolution website, and has advised schools on education for sustainable development. For Glynis, learning about sustainability should be about real people, real opportunities and real responsibilities.
In September 2026 she won the BBC Make a Difference Environmental Award. She is now preparing to step back from her work with Sustainability Learning CIC, and continues to lead the Forum.
