Glynis Goldsbrough wins a BBC Make a Difference Award
Glynis Goldsbrough, the Forum's lead and founder of the Schools Sustainability Conferences, has won the BBC Make a Difference Environmental Award for her work with Sustainability Learning CIC, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.
The award came as a complete surprise, Glynis told the Lancashire Evening Post: she hadn't known she had even been nominated.
While she was headteacher of Brabin's Endowed School in Chipping, Glynis suggested at a Forum meeting that she could use her contacts to run conferences for young people. The first was held in Chipping in 2007. The conferences later moved to St Christopher's CE High School in Accrington, and then to Blackburn Rovers Football Club at Ewood Park, Blackburn. The Lancashire Evening Post reports that the work has reached more than 6,000 students in 200 schools.
Today the conferences, now called the Sustainability Learning Conferences, are planned and delivered by Sustainability Learning CIC, and the Forum promotes and supports them. Forum members have long given their time to them, and provide speakers for the CPD sessions. You can find out more on the CIC's website: https://sustainabilitylearning.co.uk
Glynis has always done this work as a volunteer: by her own estimate, about 1,000 hours a year. She is now preparing to step back from her work with Sustainability Learning CIC, and Wendy Litherland, the Forum's Chairperson, will take over from her. "I've enjoyed every moment of it," Glynis told the Lancashire Evening Post. She continues as the Forum's lead.
The Forum is always keen to hear from potential volunteers. If you'd like to be part of this work, please get in touch.
